Average turn around times are 5 to 7 business days. Include additional time if you are also having your image digitally edited, printed, and/or mounted.

A copy shot is a photo taken of your artwork with a high-resolution, medium format digital camera under flat lighting conditions. The artwork is photographed next to a color bar for color matching and a gray card for white balance.

The image is rendered by our technicians to ensure it’s straight, has a basic color match, and is cropped to remove the color bar and gray card before you receive your file.

Copy shots will never be a perfect color match because different types of media react differently being photographed. Eyes tend to see things different than a camera does. On top of that, ink pigments used in prints can’t reproduce every color that paints like other types of media can, for example - acrylics or watercolors. These limitations make exact matches impossible, but our skilled technicians and careful editing can get very, very close.

The set up fee is a one-time charge for each job. Before the copy shot can be taken, lights are positioned to minimize shadows and ensure no areas of your artwork receive more light than another.

Multiple originals of about the same size may be shot for one set-up fee. Different size originals can be shot with the addition of a size change fee.

Larger pieces require more lights and time in order to ensure the piece is evenly lit. This is why larger pieces incur a higher set-up fee.

File sizes will vary depending on the exact size and proportion of original, but are usually around 250mb.

We strongly encourage you to also have a test print done of your copy shot, especially if you are planning on making reproduction prints in the future. This ensures that colors are as closely as possible. Test prints are $20.00. However, if you’re having prints made along with this service, your first test print is included at no additional cost with your print order.
